Who Should Attend
This is a six-hour (6) live IN PERSON, free introductory training and is open to SAPC Network providers including:
• Registered and Certified Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselors
• Certified Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialists & Peer Support Specialists

Training Description
All health care professionals follow a code of ethics that identifies expected behavioral norms, rules, boundaries, standards, and shared ethical principles. A code of conduct for substance use providers offers guidance on how to handle a variety of situations including difficult situations and appropriately support clients from across the continuum of substance use prevention, treatment and beyond. This training will introduce those standards and principles of ethics, boundaries, confidentiality, and professionalism important for substance use disorder providers. The training will offer attendees examples of ethical decision-making models as well as practice in utilizing appropriate steps to mitigate breaches of client rights and confidentiality. Attendees will be strongly encouraged to actively participate in the training by turning on their cameras for the ENTIRE training. Time will be provided throughout the training for polls, group discussion and opportunities for practice activities.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
1) Describe three (3) ways in which ethical principles may be put into everyday practice.
2) Evaluate how professional accountability and responsibilities relate to the roles of substance use disorder (SUD) counselors and Peers in Substance Use treatment.
3) Identify three (3) ways to enhance your professional boundaries, ethics and confidentiality practice when working with clients in the Substance Use Continuum of Care.
4) Apply four (4) ethical principles to commonly encountered ethical challenges or conflicts.
5) Demonstrate ethical decision-making model steps that can be applied to mitigating breaches of client rights and confidentiality.
