Family Support
Families are deeply affected when a loved one develops an addiction, and may struggle with the impact for many years. L.A. CADA offers support for families in all of our programs, including family therapy and family support groups. For families with a significant other in treatment, please remember:
- Provide consistent messages of love and support with assertive communication
- Allow your loved one to struggle, learn, and grow by letting them take responsibility for their recovery and their needs
- Don’t do for them what they can do for themselves
- Obtain support to explore and heal your own anger, resentment, distrust, and hurt outside of the relationship with your loved one
- Appreciate and applaud changes in your loved one and recognize that these changes may move you out of your comfort zone
For those with a loved one who is not yet in a treatment program, L.A. CADA counseling staff is available to meet with family members for individual counseling. For more information please call 562-906-2676 to schedule an appointment at $25 per hour for a family consultation. Attend an Al-Anon or Al-a-Teen meeting for excellent support and the ability to learn from others' experience.
