WELCOME

PROGRAM GOALS:

The Family Foundations Program (FFP) is an alternative sentencing program for pregnant or parenting women with children under the age of six, who have been sentenced to State prison.  Women in the FFP participate in a community substance abuse treatment program while caring for their children.  The program provides an opportunity for women to develop better life skills, remain free from drugs and alcohol, became better parents, and successfully transition to the community.  Goals include drug relapse prevention and reduced recidivism of women who parole from the FFP.  The primary purpose is to break the inter-generational cycle of criminality and / or addiction.

PROGRAM STAFFING:

Staff include substance abuse specialists, a masters level clinician, a child development specialists, child care attendants, a vocational specialist, a nurse, a cook, a clinical supervisor, and others who function as a team to support the highest quality treatment.

PROGRAM SERVICES:

  • Comprehensive psychosocial assessment and evaluation
  • Crisis intervention and case management
  • HIV Prevention, Prenatal, Postpartum, and other appropriate Health Education
  • Individual and family therapy
  • Psycho-educational and process groups
  • Emphasis on relapse prevention, anger management, honesty, and responsibility
  • Family-based drug-free recreational and leisure time activities
  • Job preparation and placement
  • 12 Step meetings
  • Graduates become members of the Alumni Association

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY: 

  • Female offender who is pregnant or parenting a child 6 or under
  • History of substance abuse
  • Sentenced to State prison for a term of 36 months of less
  • No prior prison term nor convicted of an ineligible offense
  • Successful graduates are released after 12 months to an intensive parole for 12 months
  • 18 years or older
  • Not in current need of medically supervised detox or methadone
  • No medical or mental health conditions on part of mother or child that would prevent full program participation or require intensive care beyond scope of facility

Prospective applicants are sentenced by a judge under SB 519, Chapter 63, Statutes of 1994, Penal Code Section 1174.  To obtain more information or discuss possible sentencing with a Correctional Counselor, call (562) 946-7675.
