ABOUT L.A. CADA

Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse, (L.A. CADA) is a non-profit community agency dedicated to providing the highest quality treatment and prevention of substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, and related problems for Los Angeles County communities.  The agency strives to create and maintain a comprehensive network of services and support that will improve health and quality of life for individuals and families.  Our goal is to respond positively, creatively, and with "best practices" to the varied needs of those we serve.

L.A. CADA was founded in 1971 through the efforts of concerned citizens, including Dr. Ethan and Mrs. Alice Allen.  Over 7000 individuals and families receive recovery, education, and other services from the agency annually.  L.A. CADA has regularly added new programs throughout the years, growing in range and scope to  include two residential and three outpatient sites, as well as a variety of community outreach activities.

L.A. CADA receives referrals from the community, social services agencies, educational institutions, child welfare services, managed care companies, and law enforcement agencies.   Special populations include the homeless, dually diagnosed, Spanish-speaking, and women with children.

The four L.A. CADA program departments include:

  1. Outpatient Services:  counseling and education for adults and adolescents around substance abuse treatment and education, parenting, anger management, child abuse, and domestic violence.

  2. Allen House Residential Services:  long term alcohol and drug treatment and transitional housing services using a behavior modification model in a therapeutic community setting.

  3. HIV/AIDS Prevention Services:  prevention and education services for at risk individuals who are HIV - and linked referrals for HIV + clients seeking care and treatment.

  4. Family Foundation:  an alternative sentencing residential program for pregnant or parenting female drug offenders for one year with comprehensive services for women and their children.

L.A. CADA Outpatient and Allen House Treatment Programs are accredited by the Joint Commission on Hospital and Behavioral Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), licensed and certified by the State of California Depart. of Alcohol and Drug Programs, and specially approved for MediCal reimbursement of substance abuse treatment.
